All Packed Up and Ready to Go

You've bought all the gifts--the budget is spent. Everything is wrapped. The laundry is done and the car is packed for the drive to wherever. It could be just across town to Grandma's or it could be across country to Aunt Susie's (does anyone have an Aunt Susie?). The kids are hyper--after all it is Christmas (or whatever holiday you are celebrating). How on earth are you going to survive the car ride, the train ride, the wait in the airport? Maybe you should just go back to bed...

Luckily, other people have done work for you and have ideas for keeping the kids busy and entertained while traveling.

First of all, if you have any board games that have boxes of questions like Trivia Pursuit or Balderdash. Forget the board and just bring the cards and ask each other questions in the car. If you want to go out and buy one or two more things. There are magnetic versions and travel versions of all your favorite travel games. There are some nice art materials that are packed creatively. I have put some of these on the letkidsplay website.

I also found this spiral bound book, I haven't listen to it, but the parents who bought it gave it 5 stars. Here is what the back cover says,

"All Together Now!ALL-AMERICAN CAR-I-OKE is the complete fun kit. Inside you'll find a CD (minus vocals just like karaoke) and a book of lyrics, activities, trivia and games Sing a gutsy, rocking version of "Proud Mary," and learn some cool seat-dancing moves to go with it. Make up your own mix-and-match lyrics for the "Are We There Yet Blues." Take the carioke challenge: Who in the car can hit the high note—land of the free-eeeeeee!—in the "Star-Spangled Banner"? Then on your next road trip, listen as cries of "We're bored!" change to "Can we stay in the car and sing another one, please"

If you don't already have anything and just can't handle any store, one more time. Here are a couple of websites with fun travel games:

Best Travel Games to Play in the Car

As a last resort (OK as maybe the first resort) and you never heard me say this and I will deny it if you say I said it, there is always the DVD in the car, the game boy on the plane, the mp3 player (so you don't have to listen to their music). Sometimes batteries and plugs are just necessary.

Have a wonderful holiday and safe travels wherever you go. It has been more than a pleasure sharing my love of toys with you. Be ready in January to let me know what you want me to continue to share on this blog.

Happy, happy holidays--maybe they stress-free and fun.
