An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the History Center is the largest museum in Pennsylvania. The museum presents compelling stories from American history through a western Pennsylvania lens. Both long-term and changing exhibits are featured.
Open daily 10-5, The History Center is closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

This museum includes science related experiences for children of all ages. Designed so that children can touch, play with and experience the exhibits, the museum includes sections on robotics, trains, fish, sports, and physics. A submarine tour is included in admission, weather permitting.
Sunday-Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-7, $17.95 for adults, $9.95 for children 3-12, children under 3 are free. Parking $5. Additional charges for Omnimax tickets.

The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh provides innovative experiences in learning and play. Exhibits include a Mister Rogers' room, a giant bowling-lane slide, an art room and a mechanical room.

The Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary art that presents art you can get into - room-sized environments, created by in-residence artists. Located in the historic Mexican War Streets of Pittsburgh's North Side since 1977, the Mattress Factory is one of the few museums of its kind anywhere.
Sunday 1-5, Tuesday-Saturday 10-5. The museum is closed Mondays, New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Adults $10, senior citizens $8, students $7, children under 6 are free. CMU students are free. Pitt students are free spring and fall semesters.
A household membership to the Mattress Factory is $125 annually.

Visitors to the museum will tour the car barn. Displays include 6-8 of the working trolleys used to ferry visitors and a ride on one working trolley. Once daily, at 1:15, a special ride is taken to a larger facility that houses 30 trolleys and a detailed tour of the history of trolleys and their production is included. This more extended tour takes approximately 1 hour and costs $4 for adults and $2 for children in addition to general admission. Picnic areas and free parking are included with general admission.
Open every day in the summer May 25 to September 3, Monday - Friday 10-4 (last trolley ride at 3:15.), Saturday & Sunday 10- 5 (last trolley ride at 4:15). Open limited schedule at other times of the year Palm Sunday weekend through New Year's weekend: Saturday & Sunday 10-5 (last trolley ride at 4:15) Friday & Monday 10-4 (last trolley ride at 3:15). A garden designed to allow the visitor to experience plant life and geography featured in the Bible. The 1/3-acre grounds include waterfall and desert environments. Plants are labeled with Bible verses.
