I found this link and I thought it’s quite good so I thought I would share with you my dilemma...

My name is Lan I am currently a working mum with two children 5 and 3 living in Melbourne Australia

My husband will be travelling on a working visa to Pittsburgh for three months starting early next year 2009… expected more trips in the future

I am not sure whether to join him or not still haven’t decided, however I am very nervous and very confused about coming to the state as there are so much planning to do …

The bad:

I am expecting some disruptions of my work. My oldest daughter expected to starts Prep early Feb and my youngest son starts kindergarten, even flight and accommodation has been paid by my husband’s work; it doesn’t make sense if we are going to lose money ($20 thousand Aust) out of this whole thing. Maybe this might put my great job under jeopardy also.

I am not sue how much it will cost for health insurance to cover for our family for the period of 3 months (expected $1000 USD??)

The good:

The benefit to my husband’s career would be worth it. A trip of a lifetime, I think it would be very interesting to live in the US for a while. I believe that it won’t be too disruptive for the kids because they are so young still.

Hi. I am new to this site and I am not sure of the best place on the site to ask a question.

Does anyone know of any Toys for Tots locations in the South Hills area? I have some wonderful things that I would like to donate.

Hello Everyone,

I am glad to find out about this website however it does not have a resource directory for finances, such as what to do with our money after we make it, cutting costs for our families. Ideas on at-home businesses to add income during these turbulent times like a Plan B to what our primary jobs. How about if we are facing legal issues such as foreclosure, bankruptcy, and legal challenges.

Thank you for the advice, but the problem is it's been over 2 1/2 years and the children are 23,20,18,17,16,15,12,11,10 five boys and 4 girls. I tell the children to love their mom and I am their friend. they don't like that I have rules for bedtime, homework and dinner @ between 6 and 6:30 every night and they have to eat their vegetables say their prayers. And be home at reasonable hours (depending on the age). No swearing! or Lying! Their father is very fair, to all the children and doesn't favor any of them all treated equal. Will it die down? or is this just the beginning. I do pray for their Mom for strength, peace and also Honesty with the children.

Please visit our page to read about our Vision and Mission Statement

We also offer fully compensated research studies for pregnancy and postpartum moms. Benefits of participation include clinician assessment, psychiatrist consultation, and developmental assessments for infants. Read more about our research.

Here is information on the studies currently looking for participants at Women's Behavioral Health Care

· Transdermal Estradiol for Postpartum Depression

Clinical Trial for

Treatment for Postpartum Depression

For Information Please Contact:

Tel: 1-800-436-2461 womensbehavioralhealth.org

From our postpartum depression screening study at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, we know that 14.6% of women who deliver have questionnaire responses suggestive of postpartum depression at 4-6 weeks after birth. Our new study, Transdermal Estradiol for Postpartum Depression, supported by the National Institute of Mental Health can address this treatment need.

This is a study of estradiol skin patch treatment for postpartum depression. We will compare women’s treatment responses to estradiol, sertraline (Zoloft) and placebo. It is important to note that placebo treatment for depression results in improvement in about 30% or more of women, probably due to education, support and expert monitoring. For mothers who improve with treatment over 8 weeks, we will continue treatment through 6 months postpartum. We will also evaluate infant development at 6 months. The results of the developmental assessment (cognitive, motor, behavior) will be shared with you.

What are the benefits of participation? All enrolled women receive an expert psychiatric assessment, consultation with treatment recommendations, and a review of mental health care options whether they decide to participate in the study or not. These services are provided free of charge by an internationally recognized team of perinatal psychiatry specialists (Drs. Wisner, Moses-Kolko and Sit). We also provide breastfeeding information, childcare for appointments, an honorarium for attendance at our clinical program, study medication without cost, and the hope of making treatments better for postpartum women of the future.

Study visits are fully compensated ($25 each) and parking and/or bus fare is provided. Babysitting is available free of charge during visits.

You are appropriate for this study if you are:

o Ages 18-45

o No more than 12 weeks postpartum

o Breasefeeding or Bottlefeeding

o Medically healthy

o Not on an antidepressant currently, unless it is ineffective

o Non-smoking or smoke less than 1/2 pack per day or are willing to cut down or quit

· Women's Brain Imaging Study

Description:

This study is investigating whether postpartum women have unique changes in brain function that may lead to depression. Researchers plan to image brain serotonin receptors, dopamine receptors and brain blood flow in:

o Depressed postpartum women

o Non-depressed postpartum women

o Depressed non-postpartum women

This study includes two study visits over a one- to two- month period. Study procedures include a physical examination, menstrual history interview, psychiatric evaluation, blood draws, urine collection, one magnetic resonance imaging (MRI scan), and one positron emissions test (PET). Participants will be compensated up to $210 for their time and effort upon completion of the study.

If you are interested in participation in this study, please call Tova Saul at (412) 586-9445 or via email at saulat@upmc.edu

Source of Support:

National Institute of Mental Health

Participation:

Women who are in good physical health and are 18-45 years old may be eligible for this study. If the participant is pregnant, participation may begin within the first 14 weeks after delivery. Participants may be eligible if they are currently breastfeeding or bottlefeeding. Participants must not be currently using any psychiatric medications. If participant is currently using hormonal contraception (birth control), she must be willing to discontinue use throughout the study.

· Antimanic Use during Pregnancy

Research Study to Assess

PREGNANT WOMEN WITH BIPOLAR DISORDER

For Information Please Contact:

Tel: 1-800-436-2461 womensbehavioralhealth.org

This project, Antimanic Use during Pregnancy, is a study to investigate the outcomes in pregnant women with bipolar disorder and their offspring. Assessment visits are fully compensated including parking and or bus fare. Babysitting is provided.

The study team will:

o provide expert consultation to the treating physician and patient at no charge for women who enroll in the study.

o enroll women at 20 weeks gestation, although they can be seen earlier in pregnancy for consultation.

o enroll women who take medication or choose no medication treatment.

o refer women with no treatment provider to our parallel clinical service, Magee Behavioral Health, located in Magee Women’s Hospital.

o gain critical information on pregnancy outcomes and infant development for women with bipolar illness, either medicated or unmedicated.

o recruit over 200 women over the next four years to participate in this NIMH-funded study.

o assess women at 20, 30 and 36 weeks gestation. Each of these assessments will be compensated $25. Phone assessments start at 37 weeks and continue (weekly) through delivery. At birth, maternal serum levels and cord blood will be obtained.

o assess post-birth mothers and conduct baby assessments and developmental testing (cognitive, motor, behavior) at 2 weeks, 3, 6.5, and 12 months postpartum. Each of these assessments will also be compensated $25. The results of the developmental baby assessment will be shared with you during each baby visit. Additional phone assessments for moms will occur at 1, 4, and 8 weeks postpartum.

o report the results of each assessment to the woman’s treating physician to ensure she recieves the best care.

Hi everybody

we have just started a Pittsburgh based business with safe, fun, portable night lights for kids. We started distributing through Amazon and sell them for an introductory price right now.

The cute characters are currently an Owl, T-Rex and a Brontosaurus that glow in different colors.

Kids can use them as daytime playtoys and take them to bed or to the potty at night.

There's a new global warming bill that's going through Congress. The global warming bill, or the Waxman Markey Act, establishes a cap and trade system on carbon emissions, which some think will lead to a greener economy, more jobs, and cheaper energy bills. Others think it won't amount to much – consumers will still need payday loans for their electricity bills and energy companies will be pocketing cash as it creates another industry bubble, and will only lead to consumers having to pay more out of pocket and more government programs that will need taxpayer funding. A global warming bill of some kind was due eventually, but more people needing a cash advance for utilities isn't a great idea.

i'm a new member and a mom of a 2-yr-old toddler. he's active, curious and impulsive qualities have him now labeled as "trouble" at daycare - based on teacher reaction/conversations.

as a first time mom, it's tough to gauge severity of behaviors such as wandering off from group activities (reading, group play, etc.,), hits when he wants a toy from another child, spit bubbles at mealtime (laughs & says it's funny), wants to be outside all the time, parallel play w peers and tantrums when he doesn't get his way. all seems behavior/emotions.

he excels cognitively. he has a great memory, knows his alphabets, counts up to 15, knows names of animals in 2 sets of cards (40 or more), memorized sequence of first 20 or so songs of his bedtime cd and can do puzzles meant for his age with ease - we've introduced him to traditional 12 piece puzzles.

the pediatrician says he seems normal. the issues are typical of his age. daycare teacher says it "needs attention." i've even scheduled time with a behavioral specialist for suggestions and evaluation.

are those valid concerns for his age or is the daycare asking a little much of someone his age? or does he seriously underdeveloped socially & emotionally?

thoughts and opinions much appreciated!!!
