Oh, don't get me started!!! I found out that my pediatrician's office has the vaccine and was offering when kids came in for the flu clinics. I was proactive and got my kid's flu shots early, before the H1N1 came out. I asked for an appointment for the vaccine and was told they were out. Check the website to see when we get a supply. Two days later, my friend tells me that her daughter got the vaccine that day at her wellness visit that day (we use the same pediatric practice). I went back to the pediatrician's office to get an appointment and was told again they don't have it. I asked why someone got it that day - then the story changed that they do have it, but what they do have is reserved for their flu clinics. So because my kids got the flu shot already, I can't make an appointment for the flu clinics to be offered the H1N1 vaccine. Anything wrong with this picture??!! My husband is a paramedic and he can't eve get the vaccine for himself, and he's a "priority" group.
My youngest has the same problem - every cold she had last year went right to her chest - she had bronchiolitis last year, croup twice, and I have the same concern about it going to her chest, especially since it is all through the school district here and kids from the school are at her daycare in the mornings and afternoons.
The only high risk group for kids are heart disease, diabetes, and something else I can't remember. Just because our kids are prone to respiratory infections unfortunately doesn't make them a higher priority. I'm going to keep pushing to try to get it!!
