Spring Events at the National Aviary
Pet Parrot Workshop
February 20, 10 am - 12 noon
Back by popular demand, this lively and informative workshop gives participants practical instruction for interacting and training pet parrots using positive reinforcement techniques. The class will cover common behavior issues that owners encounter in the home, as well as diet, perching and enrichment. Participants will leave with information and resources that provide further insight on parrot training and health.
Hoots in the Night
March 13, 11 am – 2 pm
Celebrate spring with the National Aviary as you learn about birds that wake up as the sun goes down. Meet nocturnal feathered friends and learn about the unique adaptations that help them thrive in the night.
St. Patrick’s Day - Green Bird Scavenger Hunt
March 17, 10 am – 5 pm
Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet at the admissions desk and embark on a search for the green birds in the Aviary flock. Explore the exhibits and keep track of the birds that you spot. Children under 12 who participate receive a takeaway treat.
Meet the Easter Bunny
March 27 and April 3, 11 am – 1 pm
Bring your camera and meet the Easter Bunny at the National Aviary. Children will also receive a takeaway treat
Earth Day
April 22
In honor of Earth Day, staff will bring out feathered friends for guests to meet, and children will a green-themed story time at 10:30 a.m. Guests will learn simple, practical ways to help the environment at home, in the community and in the workplace.
Party for the Planet Day
April 24, 11 am – 2 pm
Learn about the challenges facing many species of birds in the wild and ways to take conservation action to protect the planet. The day will feature bird encounters, giveaways and presentations by Aviary trainers.
