I have a 2 1/2 year old son. During these winter months he has become increasingly bored! I am looking for some ideas of things I can do with him or places I can take him while we wait for the warm weather! I know about all the museums and the science center! But I am looking for some things that are cheap or even free! I know in this day and age there isn't much that is free! I am willing to join play groups! I live in South Park which is in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. So if anyone has any ideas or knows of any play groups or lives in the South Hills and would even want to have a play date with me and my son (I'm not a weirdo I just don't have any friends with kids) let me know! I greatly appreciate any input! Thanks!!

You've come to the right place!!

I'd definitely join a local playgroup. Most people really love the MOMS Clubs. I know there are some in the South Hills, see a list of them here

Also check our the indoor play options on this feature...many of them are free (like mall play areas)

And check out the list of story times, going to the bookstore for storytime (and most Barnes & Noble's have great train tables that my boys will play with for ages). Also free! See a list of storytimes here

I go to my local libraries alot...they all offer free storytimes and alot of them have craft time also --either free or sometimes just $1.00..  you can't beat that.

Also, we do Chuck E Cheese which is pretty good -- all games/rides .25....sometimes we don't even eat...we just go and play.

I've been on the look out too for out of the ordinary things to do.  I live in the North HIlls.  My kids are 4,5,7.  I like to do different things and relatively inexpensive -- CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!! things!  Let me know if you have any other ideas out in the North.

    thanks

    Sheila

I can related to your post. My boys are 4 and 1.5. I'm in the south hills of pgh. My older son is in preschool 2 days a week which is nice. We do chuck e cheese, seesaw center in castle shannon, library storytime, and kids company. Also, chick fil a on wash road has a really small play area but I take the kids their for breakfast or lunch and let them play for an hour or so. Also, near South Park their is a burger king with a huge play area. Or McDonalds on Fort Couch Road. Heather mentioned Barnes & Noble which is great. I don't go to that storytime anymore since it is on Tues and it's preschool day.

I would be willing to get together since I'm in the south hills.

Heather - There is a new MOMS Club starting up too. South Hills MOMS. The contact is Jenn Colwell, our mutual friend. You should talk to her about adding her to your list.
