    Hello all,

I'm new to the board but am very glad I found this website.  I'd like to know if there are any of you out there who have had or know someone who've had a procedure called Novasure?  It is a form of endometrial ablation that is suppoused to either discontinue or greatly help heavy bleeding during periods.

My doctor suggested the procedure and although I do like what he's told me so far, I'm leery as to weather the results are really as good as they sound.  Anyone w/ experiences they'd like to share?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure a friend of mine had this done and LOVED it. Let me shoot her a quick email (she's a Pittsburgher too but I'm not sure she'll see this) and ask her to respond.

I've not had Novasure; however, I've had thermal ablation.  As a result of PCO, I had very irregular periods.  My doctor explained the risks and benefits associated with Novasure and thermal ablation.  Novasure is an electrical-based ablation procedure and the procedure I had is with a heated balloon (of sorts.)  I chose the second option as recovery time was quicker.  I had immediate pain after surgery in recovery that was cured with a dose of something -- I was still a little groggy!  Some mild cramping that evening and at the gym the next day.  I had the procedure in August 2007.  In early 2008 I started having some bleeding issues (not heavy, but a pain none the less.)  So I had a DNC.  That really didn't help either.  My doctor said repeat thermal ablations are not common but could help solve the problem.  Therefore, I chose another thermal ablation which I had performed on March 3rd.  So far so good!  Either procedure doesn't guarantee to eliminate the bleeding, but they do make it much lighter if you have any bleeding at all.  Obviously, you know you can't have more children after the procedure, right?

I had the novasure procedure about 3-4 years ago. Prior to the procedure I had extremely heavy periods (sometimes having to wear 2 super plus tampons at a time) and such severe pain that I could not function. I have had boyfriends pick me up and carry me because I was unable to walk.

After the procedure I had a few months of light spotting and strange pregnancy symptoms. I even went as far as to purchase a pregnancy test once and of course it was negative since I had my tubes tied for the last 10 years.

I loved the procedure. To date i have had no periods or pain. My body still thinks that I’m having a period so i get the bloating, occasional breakouts and soar breast but no periods. I can't tell you the money i have saved on tampons.

The only down side is that I have now meet a wonderful man who doesn't have children and I regret the procedure for that reason only. If I hadn't had the procedure at least I would have the opportunity to carry a child again after a tubal reversal - but with the Novasure there is no way to do this safely.

If you are GARRANTEED that you will NEVER want kids again - then I HIGHLY recommend the procedure.

Thanks so much for the response!  I've had my tubes tied for eight years now so I'm sure I won't be having anymore children.  I'm scheduled to have the procedure done next week and I'm glad to hear that things turned out well for you.

I do realize that it may not take my periods totally away but even lighter ones will be something to look forward to after so many years of heavy periods!

    Thanks again for your experiences!

I had my tubes tied 15 years ago and now regret it. I spent most of last night on a blog of women who all had the procedure done and so many of them were in the same situation. Never thought they would want kids again and found themself in a relationship where now they do.

I wish you all the luck but really consider the consecuiences. So many women have regreted not being able to have kids.
