Hi all! I am going to be a mom for the first time very soon. He is due January 25th...I think he's coming early for some reason. :)

We would love to make some new friends - couples with little ones. NONE of our friends have kiddos!

I am looking for good daycare options in Bloomfield, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill. Any suggestions? I am open to any kind of daycare...just want it to be a good one!

Congratulations on becoming a mommy!  There are lots of great playgroups in the Pittsburgh area.  Heather has them listed in the Playgroups section of the resource directory.

I am part of the BFF group and the Pittsburgh Attachment Parenting groups and both groups are wonderful and have lots for you to do.

I am not much help on the daycare options because I don't live in that general vicinity so hopefully someone else can help you there.

    Welcome to pittsburghmom.

How exciting! You're about to enter an amazing phase of your life!  My advice to you now----go out to dinner ALL THE TIME and go see movies in the theater. Because those will most definitely be gone after he's here. :)

Like Amy I don't live in that area so I can't help much with daycare options.

There are a lot of good playgroups listed on the playgroups page (link is to the right in the red box).

I'll ask some of my "East End" friends if they can recommend anything more specific.

    Welcome to Pittsburgh Mom!!

Hello and congratulations on becoming a mommy!

When we had our little girl (now 2), all of our friends already had kids that were toddlers or older.  Luckily, we inadvertently made a few new and dear friends through birth prep classes like lamaze and breastfeeding at the hospital. (Classes are inexpensive, if not free or covered by insurance, just call to get a schedule and find out materials to bring, like pillows, for example) You'l find couples there that live close and share some of the same interests.  In fact, we made an informal little play group out of our families that gave birth June/July 2007 and still get together for seasonal activities.

We live in the South Hills, so I wouldn't know who to recommend for day care -- sorry.

Oh, and I whole-heartedly agree with Heather -- go the movies/theater and dinner while you can!  In fact, relish anything that requires peace, quiet and solitude.  One of my girlfriends asked on FB today when she would ever be able to grab a few minutes to exercise or even go to the bathroom undisturbed :)  One mom replied, "It never ends."  So do enjoy those things before you have to concern yourself with sitters, etc.  Once a mommy, always a mommy -- but boy, what a blessing.

    Congrats and best wishes,

    Jennifer

Thank You! We have taken some classes at Magee, but they weren't very interactive. But we are still signed up for the childbirth class, so hopefully we'll meet some people then.

I am definitely cherishing my quiet and undisturbed nap times...even though I can't wait for my little boy to come, I know I'll wish sometimes that he would just take care of himself so I can rest!
