Hello and congratulations on becoming a mommy!
When we had our little girl (now 2), all of our friends already had kids that were toddlers or older. Luckily, we inadvertently made a few new and dear friends through birth prep classes like lamaze and breastfeeding at the hospital. (Classes are inexpensive, if not free or covered by insurance, just call to get a schedule and find out materials to bring, like pillows, for example) You'l find couples there that live close and share some of the same interests. In fact, we made an informal little play group out of our families that gave birth June/July 2007 and still get together for seasonal activities.
We live in the South Hills, so I wouldn't know who to recommend for day care -- sorry.
Oh, and I whole-heartedly agree with Heather -- go the movies/theater and dinner while you can! In fact, relish anything that requires peace, quiet and solitude. One of my girlfriends asked on FB today when she would ever be able to grab a few minutes to exercise or even go to the bathroom undisturbed :) One mom replied, "It never ends." So do enjoy those things before you have to concern yourself with sitters, etc. Once a mommy, always a mommy -- but boy, what a blessing.
Congrats and best wishes,
Jennifer
