Are you getting gifts for your kids' teachers this year?

I never know what to do or how much to spend.I have 6 total teachers for the boys.

I usually have all women. This year I got them fuzzy slippers and PJ pants because they do jammie day on Fridays and they all wear their slippers.  I just hated to do gift cards, I felt like actually shopping.

But then they just went an hired a guy. He's only been there a week or two, so I don't even know him. I wish they wouldn't do that just before the holidays!  I'm thinking about just getting him a gift card instead of the jammie thing.

So what are you doing and how many do you need to buy for?

I got each kid's teacher a $10 gift card for Barnes and Noble.  That way they can get something for themselves that's not related to school.  It's not perishable.  It's not scented.  It's not a coffee mug or apple christmas ornament.  It doesn't have to be teacher related at all.  I think all teachers have a secret drawer full of everything that says "#1 Teacher."

I would stick with the pajama theme for the guy too.  Get him a pair of lounge pants and I'm not sure what then guy equivalent to fuzzy slippers is.

May I have ten thousand marbles, please?

We usually give each daycare teacher a $25 Giant Eagle Gift Card.  Last year, for daycare teachers who we have felt wouldn't appreciate a GE gift card (usually younger and still living at home), we got an Old navy Gift card. I like your idea though, esp. since you know they will use the PJs and slippers.

We have 4 this year because only my son is there and he has been in 2 different rooms (each with 2 teachers) during this year.

For my daughter's kindergarten teachers, we contributed $20 for a collection to buy gift cards for the teachers from all the K students.

When my daughter was in daycare and kindergarten last year (at the same place), I put together one basket for the two K teachers and another for the six daycare ones. On the advice of a friend who works at a daycare, I filled it with snack food and I also included coffees, teas, and hot chocolate. If I had to guess, I would say I probably spent about $25 plus for the K basket and $35 plus for the daycare one.

When my daughter was at an at-home daycare, I got her caregiver a $25 gift card to a restaurant. Much easier (i.e., cost-effective) to do when you have only one person to buy for.

This year, because I am underemployed, I bought my kid's first grade a teacher a coffee mug with bath stuff. I thought it was cute and the price was right (around 5 bucks), but I am sure she would much more appreciate a gift card. I figure she can regift it if she does not like it.

I have heard teachers appreciate gift cards to stores like Holcomb's, but that went out of business, so not sure what the alternative is. Probably can't go wrong with Target.

Don't forget about your kids school bus driver....they have anywhere from 10 to 84 screaming kids behind them everyday, they have to break up fights, play mom, clean up vomit plus get them to school on time. They take the heat from angry parents when the transportation department or the school messes up, plus they have to deal with the ice and the snow, all this for about $15k a year and rarely a thank you.
