If you've never been to see one of the Fiddlesticks Family Concerts, this weekend would be a perfect time to check it out.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s Ambassador to Children is a lovable and musical cat named Fiddlesticks. A very special member of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra family since 1992, this violin-toting, seven-foot fiddlin’ feline has a concert series to his name, has made numerous guest appearances in the Pittsburgh area and has enchanted his thousands of young fans.

The interactive concerts hosted by Fiddlesticks at Heinz Hall are especially for children 3 to 8 years of age. These Saturday morning programs offer educational, musical and hands-on experiences and are unique in their educational approach. They are based on audience-performer interaction--between children in the audience and Fiddlesticks, the conductor and the musicians on stage. Fiddlesticks serves as a facilitator for learning during these events, assisting the audience in understanding and enjoying the concert experience. Fiddlesticks events are approximately two hours in length, including one hour of pre-concert activities where children have the opportunity to interact with PSO musicians through instrument demonstrations and visit various learning centers with hands-on activities throughout the Hall. The following one-hour concert incorporates the crafts, presentations and interactive elements the children experienced during the pre-concert activities.

About This Performance

Melody, rhythm and harmony make music. Like an architect designs a building, composers create music with these essential building blocks. Watch a musical skyscraper take shape with Edvard Grieg’s Morning Mood, Strauss’ Radetzky March and music from Stravinsky’s The Firebird.
