How do they know it's the weekend?

I'm talking about sleep again today.  I seem to be obsessed with sleep (or lack thereof) lately.

My kids have been so difficult to wake up this week. I think it must be the time change or the fact that it's still dark out, but they've been pulling the "throw the covers over my head and go back to sleep" move every single morning.

I, myself, have found it painful to get out of bed every day this week too.

That said, how much do you want to bet me that tomorrow (Saturday) they will both be up at the crack of dawn (well, technically probably before dawn since it's getting light out later).  During this past week each kid would have easily slept until 8 a.m. if we let them.

But tomorrow, that's another story. We've had other weeks like this too, great sleep and then the one day that we CAN sleep in, they wake up early.

How is that possible? How do their little bodies/minds know it's the weekend? Do you think they actually KNOW it's the weekend and therefore make a conscious decision to wake up early? Or is it somehow just a cosmic parenting joke from the heavens?

Either way, I'd be willing to bet big money that my kids DON'T sleep in tomorrow. And gosh darnit, I'd REALLY like to sleep in.

Do you suffer from the same cosmic "gotcha!" in your house?
